Become a Published Author
Calling all young storytellers ages 10 and up! In this 8-week workshop, kids and teens will turn their ideas into real, published books—building writing skills, confidence, and creativity along the way.
The first half of the program is all about writing. Through fun and engaging lessons, participants will learn key storytelling techniques like narrative structure, character development, and sensory detail. Writers can choose the format that inspires them most—whether it's a chapter book, short story collection, poetry anthology, picture book, or even a graphic novel.
In the following weeks, we’ll focus on revising and editing. Each participant will receive personalized feedback and one-on-one writing conferences to help refine their work and bring their story to life.
After final manuscripts are submitted, library staff will format each book to meet Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) requirements. During the final session, we’ll celebrate with a pizza party while families set up their child’s KDP account. This ensures all royalties go directly to the author’s family. Once the manuscript and cover are uploaded, participants will press “publish” and officially become authors!
Books are typically available online within a week, and authors can earn royalties for each copy sold.
No prior writing or publishing experience is needed. Every participant will leave this workshop as a published author—proud, empowered, and inspired to keep writing.

🎬 Teen Movie Monday
Join us for a summer full of big screen fun! Each week, we’ll be showing a different teen-friendly movie to help you cool off, kick back, and enjoy some time with friends. Whether you're into comedies, action, romance, or adventure, there's something for everyone. Snacks will be provided, and all movies are rated PG or PG-13. Bring a blanket, bring a friend, and don't miss out! This week’s movie is TBD, so keep your eye out for updates!

Senior Coffee Break
Seniors are invited to the library for free coffee and a soon-to-be-announced activity or presenter!

Memoir & Biography Book Club
River Valley District Library is celebrating International Women's Day by discussing "Educated" by Tara Westover for this NEW book club debut! Educated is an account of the struggle for self-invention. It is a tale of fierce family loyalty and of the grief that comes with severing the closest of ties. With the acute insight that distinguishes all great writers, Westover has crafted a universal coming-of-age story that gets to the heart of what an education is and what it offers: the perspective to see one's life through new eyes and the will to change it.
