Library Services
At River Valley Library, we believe that informational and recreational resources should be accessible, engaging, and tailored for you. That is why we offer services like tech assistance, meeting room reservation, and the use of our makerspace equipment. All library services are free with the exception of printing and lamination. Notary services are available during normal library hours and include acknowledgments and signature witnessing. All documents must be signed in front of the notary, and each signer must have a valid photo ID.
*On Saturdays, call in advance to ensure a notary is on staff. -
Computers and wireless connection are always available during normal business hours. Each of our 7 computers are equipped with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Presentation, and MS Publisher. Computer usage is first come, first serve and our wifi has no password. Wifi may be used in the parking lot when the library is closed.

Printing, scanning, and faxing services are available during regular business hours. You can connect to our printer using your personal phone, laptop, or tablet, or you can print from one of our library computers. Scanning and out-going faxes are free, while incoming faxes are 15 cents per page.
Black and White Prints and Copies are $0.15 per page. Color Prints and Copies are $0.50 per page. -
The River Valley Library partners with Shred-It, to make the shredding of confidential documents convenient and secure. Moderate quantities of documents may be dropped off in the library’s Shred-It bin at any time, while bulk quantities of documents can be shredded at our annual Shred-It Event.

Basic technology assistance is available throughout regular library hours. Tech assistance that requires more than 10 minutes of One-on-One help must be scheduled in advance. Examples of basic tech help include downloading a library app on your phone or connecting your personal device to our printer.

The laminator is available during regular library hours and is located in our makerspace area. Various sizes of lamination pouches are available, and each lamination pouch costs $1, no matter what size.

Our Cricut Maker 3 and AccuCut Die Cut machine are available in our Makerspace to use for free during regular library hours. The Cricut Maker 3 is equipped with cutting matts and a fine point blade. All materials other than cardstock must be brought from home. Advanced assistance with the Cricut cutter is by appointment only.

Our microfilm reader is available for use in our community room when meetings and programs are not taking place. This reader can be used to read the microfilm archives of the Port Byron Globe and Port Byron Review that are housed in our historical society collection.

Interlibrary Loan is a program that makes it possible for users of the River Valley District Library to borrow materials from outside of the library system. Academic, public, school and special libraries throughout Illinois and across the nation participate in this program. This program is free of charge. To borrow materials through ILL, please see a staff member at the circulation desk. To borrow ILL materials you must have a valid library card.

Have a scratched disc? We would be happy to run it through our disc cleaner! Disc cleaning services are available during regular library hours. Use of our disc cleaner does not guarantee that your disc will be fixed. Discs brought in after 5 pm may not be cleaned within the same day.

You can schedule an hour with a library staff member to help you with an advanced tech issue. These tech help tutorials can be used to learn how to navigate your personal device or to learn the basics of tools like Canva, AI, or MS Word. Schedule a tutorial to receive an hour of personalized assistance or instruction.
Schedule a One-on-One Tutorial -
Meet with a licensed staff member to receive help with your schoolwork. These appointments can be used to receive help with specific assignments, test preparation, or receive a tutoring lesson to strengthen the understanding of a particular concept. All ages of students are welcome to request a homework help appointment.

Individuals and organizations may reserve our meeting room for group activities. Community Room reservations are first come, first serve. Library sponsored and co-sponsored reservations take precedence. Non-sponsored individuals and organizations may reserve the room up to four times a year. Non-soliciting parties may reserve the area for free, while vendors and other soliciting parties must pay a fee of $20.

You can reserve up to 1 hour of help with our Cricut Maker 3. These appointments are for users who are not familiar with the Cricut maker software, but would like to try out a Cricut project. Cardstock, cutting mats, and certain cutting blades can be provided by the library. You must provide all other project materials.

River Valley Library is eager to visit your classroom! Classroom Outreach Services may include story time, arts and crafts, music and movement, book clubs, reader’s advisory presentations, or research project support visits.

Staff members are available to serve as impartial proctors for exams. These exam sessions are by appointment only, and your academic institution must send our staff a Proctor Agreement Form and Exam Instructions. A valid photo ID must be used to verify your identity. To schedule an exam, please email or call us.
One-on-One Tutorial Form
Fill out this form to request a one-on-one tutorial for Tech Help, Homework Help, or Cricut Help! Tutorial services may be up to 1 hour in length, and will be dependent on staff availability. Once you submit your request, a staff member will reach out to you to schedule your appointment.
Meeting Room Reservation Form
Fill out this form to request a reservation of the community room. Community Room reservations are first come, first serve. Library sponsored and co-sponsored reservations take precedence. Non-sponsored individuals and organizations may reserve the room up to four times a year. Non-soliciting parties may reserve the area for free, while vendors and other soliciting parties must pay a fee of $20. Once the request is received, a staff member will contact you to schedule a reservation. Filling out this form does not guarantee your reservation.
