FOIA
The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) grants the public the right to access records from government agencies, including the River Valley District Library. This law promotes transparency while allowing certain exemptions for classified, personal, or sensitive information.
Submitting a FOIA Request
FOIA requests are to be emailed to director@rivervalleylibrary.org
The Library will respond to a written request within seven (7) working days or sooner if possible. In some cases, an extension of an additional seven (7) working days may be necessary to properly respond.
Certain records may be inspected or copied. If records are inspected, a Library employee must be present throughout the inspection.
Appeals
If a FOIA request is denied, an appeal may be made to the Board of Library Trustees for further review. The River Valley District Library Board of Library Trustees exercises control over Library policies and procedures. The Board meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 5:30 PM in the upstairs Community Room of the Library.
For more information or to submit a request, please contact the Library.
